Director Lynne Ramsay Abandons 'Gun' Film on First Day of Shoot

The proverbial “creative differences” hardly seem enough to describe what happened during the first day on the set of Jane Got a Gun.

The indie western, starring Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, started production this week without its director. Lynne Ramsay, who previously delivered We Need to Talk About Kevin, was a no show and subsequently dropped out of the project, Deadline.com reports.

Ramsay’s sudden withdrawal, a stunning development in an industry known for drama, could have spelled disaster for the project. The studio behind Gun moved quickly, hiring Gavin O’Connor of Warrior fame to take the helm.

The legal fallout is likely far from over, but the movie’s cast took a hit with Ramsay’s decision. Planned co-star Jude Law has withdrawn from the project.
