Report: Israeli Director Beaten by Arab Youth

Israeli director Yariv Horowitz was beaten and left unconscious last week by a group of Arab youth while attending a French film festival.

The Commentary reports that Horowitz, whose film Rock the Casbah went on to win a major prize at the Aubagne International Film Festival in southern France, was able to return to the event after being treated for his injuries. The site reports that local authorities consider the attack as being racially motivated.

Horowitz, who represents Israel, was attacked immediately after the screening of the film by a group of Arab youths. The director lost consciousness and was treated at the festival. After recovering from the blows he received, he returned to the festival area in “good condition….”

The film “Rock the Casbah,” starring Yon Tumarkin, follows the story of young soldiers in the first Intifada in Gaza. The soldiers are located on the roof of a Palestinian family whose son is involved in the murder of one of their battalion.
