'Girls' Co-Star Leaving Show, Report Cites Behind-the-Scenes Turmoil
Formerly unknown actor Christopher Abbott had fame right where he wanted it.
Abbott co-stars on the HBO series Girls, the media's favorite new show created by liberal "It" actress Lena Dunham. He plays the off-again, on-again mate for Allison Williams' Marnie character.
Yet Abbott decided to leave the series just as his role appeared ready to flourish.
But sources told Page Six that Abbott and Dunham began butting heads as the critical-darling series entered production again. “They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,” a source said. “He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.”
It's rare that an actor wouldn't chose to swallow his or her pride rather than lose such a potentially career-making gig. Either Abbott is confident his next few roles will continue his ascent in the industry, or he'd rather struggle anew rather than be one of the Girls' boys.
