At the MTV Movie Awards, great thinker Jamie Foxx – the same fellow who said on Saturday Night Live that he celebrated the fact he got to “kill all the white people” in his latest movie, Django Unchained – showed up wearing a very special shirt. “KNOW JUSTICE, KNOW PEACE,” his shirt read. In the center was a large photo of Trayvon Martin, the black teenager shot by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, and presented by the media as the completely innocent victim of a racist murderer. Surrounding Martin were pictures of all the children of Sandy Hook.
Foxx said, “We’re just thinking about the children … we’re just protecting our kids.” He added that he didn’t mean for the shirt to be political – an asinine statement, in light of the fact that circumstances surrounding Martin’s death remain controversial, while the details surrounding the children of Sandy Hook do not.
Foxx has long been devoted to the cause of Trayvon, who witnesses say was banging George Zimmerman’s head against the pavement before he was shot. After Trayvon’s killing, Foxx tweeted a picture of himself in a hoodie, with the caption, “My hoodie will be on forever.” Supporters of Martin claim that he was unfairly targeted because he was wearing a hoodie and because he was black. During the BET Awards last year, Foxx paid tribute to Trayvon as well.
