Robert De Niro, John Travolta Team Up for Summer 'Season' Flop

Looks like The Big Wedding won’t be Robert De Niro’s most embarrassing moment of 2013.

That disastrous rom-com found the Oscar winner wallowing in poorly written vulgarities, the kind leagues beneath his talents.

Now, De Niro has a new clunker to call his own.

Killing Season, co-starring John Travolta, hauled in a paltry $27,000 in 12 theaters during a brief run over the weekend before its Aug. 20 home video release.

The film, directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Grumpy Old Men), cast De Niro as a U.S. military veteran being pursued by an old enemy (Travolta) with a major grudge.

De Niro continues to work at a fevered pace–he stars in the upcoming mob comedy The Family later this year along with the grumpy old men romp Last Vegas. Travolta, whose membership as a Scientologist in good standing hasn’t directly impacted his film career, will next be seen in the long-delayed biopic of mobster John Gotti.
