Emmys Open with Same-Sex Kisses, Sexual Banter

The 65th annual Emmy Awards telecast began with a crush of TV clips along with banter that seemed closer in tone to Miley Cyrus’ twerk-a-thon at last month’s VMAs.

Emmy host Neil Patrick Harris opened the night by sitting before a bank of TV screens to catch up with all the content available for awards. Among the sequences shown–a same sex smooch from the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra.

Minutes later, Harris’ opening monologue was interrupted repeatedly by past Emmy hosts as well as comic actresses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The duo, wearing 3D glasses, implored Harris to take off his pants and twerk it.

The glasses, Fey cracked, were “so we can see your business up close.”
