Saturday Night Live Hires Two Black Women Writers

Saturday Night Live, the NBC show famous for lampooning conservatives for their narrowmindedness, has addressed its own lack of diversity and hired two black women, LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones, to its writing staff.

The Hollywood Reporter said that the two writers were chosen after auditions of exclusively minority women.

Only recently the show added another black woman, comedian Sasheer Zamata, to the cast–one of the only mid-season hires for performers the program has ever done.

Zamata’s audition came after two black cast members, Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah, leveled criticism at the show for having 16 regular or featured players without a black woman. Both men, in a refusal to make concessions to political correctness, said they would not dress in drag to portray black women.
