Robert Redford Blasts Indie Studio for Not Putting Money into His Oscar Campaign

Robert Redford certainly has enough career accolades to be the envy of any working actor, and deservedly so.

Yet Redford still bristled at being snubbed by the Academy earlier today when his terrific performance in All Is Lost failed to win him a Best Actor nomination.

The founder of the Sundance Film Festival, a gathering dedicated to independent filmmaking, blasted the indie studio behind Lost as being partly to blame for the snub.

We had no campaign to help us cross over to the mainstream. I don’t know what [Roadside Attractions] were afraid of. They didn’t want to spend money or they were incapable....”

“These films are reliant on campaigns. It can get very political,” said Redford, who reminded the crowd that Hollywood is a business and one he respects.
