NYPD: Academy Award-Winning Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead on Sunday afternoon at his New York City apartment.

The New York Post has reported that Hoffman died of an apparent drug overdose, “in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm,” according to police.

Police, the WSJ reports, are investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is attempting to determine the exact cause of death.

The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan.

Last year it was revealed that Hoffman had left a detox facility after a drug abuse problem. He had reportedly admitted to snorting heroin and taking prescription pills.

He was born on July 23, 1967 in Fairport, New York and is survived by his partner Mimi O’Donnell and three children.

Mr. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, “Capote” and was also nominated for his role in several other films including Charlie Wilson’s War.
