‘Son of God’ Crucifixion: ‘Graphic … ‘Hard to Watch’
Capone of Ain’t It Cool News sat down with “Son of God” producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey for an extensive interview worth reading in its entirety. Something I had been curious about was the Crucifixion. One of the excuses left-wing Christian-haters used to try and kill Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” even before it got off the ground was to crybaby about the violence. But that was anti-science crybabying.
It is simply a historical and scientific fact that crucifixion is a horrifically brutal and violent way to die. Gibson choosing to portray Christ’s Passion as realistically as possible is crucially important when it comes to not only understanding what Jesus went through for us but also to understand that Jesus was who He said He was.
Who submits to such a thing based on a lie?
“Son of God” is rated PG-13, but Capone, Downey, and Burnett all agree that it is appropriately graphic:
Capone: You mentioned how the miniseries, for a lot of kids, might have been their first exposure to this material. We obviously know from THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST that you can make it about as graphic as you want to…
Roma Downey: Yes, well we wanted to get a PG-13 rating, though.
Capone: That’s what I was going to ask. Was this something you wanted to make so that families could go together?
RD: Absolutely. We wanted it to be an experience that you could share with your entire family. PASSION was an R, and we got a PG-13. The crucifixion is still hard to watch. It’s graphic. It was a brutal way to die.
Capone: It actually made me wonder what the rating was when I saw it.
RD: We worked with them.
Mark Burnett: Roma worked very close with them. I think the ratings board realized: this is the truth. Jesus was brutally crucified, and for the faith community, it would be a dishonor, and there would be a backlash if you minimized the suffering, because he suffered for all of us.
RD: Right, but also we wanted to make sure that any of the violence represented wasn’t simply gratuitous. That it was an inherent part of the story, and as one little boy commented to his father–his father was crying at the screening–and the little boy said, “It’s okay Dad; it all works out okay.”
“Son of God” opens everywhere tomorrow.
P.S. I know leftists don’t like science, but anyone who has done any kind of historical research into the horrors suffered by those crucified by the Romans in the first century, knows that Mel Gibson held back on the violence.
Income Inequality on Steroids: Sandra Bullock Pockets $70 Million for ‘Gravity’
Based on her history, I would be surprised if Bullock doesn’t give away a large chunk of this payday to the “Gravity” crew, but where is the outrage from the political, media, and Hollywood left over the income inequality of a star who pockets $70 million compared to crew that likely averaged less than 1% of that?
For years, we have seen the media and left scream about CEOs that make a lot less than $70 million for a few months work.
As far as I am personally concerned, more power to Bullock. Godspeed. Right on.
But this is just more proof that media and left’s crusade against income inequality and tax cuts is all bull shit.
Hollywood constantly begs for tax cuts claiming (correctly) they create jobs and is an industry that weights its own success on how unequal their own income is compared to others.

With the help of Paul Walker’s brother as a stand-in and the screenwriters, let’s just hope that Walker’s character is given the iconic death he deserves.
