Miley Cyrus to Star in Popular Young Adult Novel Adaptation 'Wake'

Miley Cyrus’ defenders will argue that the singer’s onslaught of outrageous behavior is fine because she is now an adult.

No more Hannah Montana, apparently.

And a former teen star has every right to grow up and entertain as she pleases. Never mind that she spent years cultivating a young audience, and that said audience might want to see what Cyrus is up to these days.

Now, the singer is set to star in a new movie based on a book aimed at young adults, the same teen crowd which flocks to fare like Twilight and Divergent. The project apparently is ready to roll, according to Deadline.com.

Wake chronicles the high school life and loves of Janie Hannagan, a teen who has the ability to enter other people’s dreams. This project has been trying to find its form since it was first announced in 2010 that Miley Cyrus would play the lead in the MTV Films-distributed adaptation of Lisa McMann’s bestselling 2008 novel.

Of course, when Cyrus first jumped on board she was still the teen pop star with the squeaky clean image. Today, she’s the epitome of shock, a performer obsessed with sexual stage shenanigans witness her 2013 VMAs performance and current Bangerz tour.
