Box Office: 'Other Woman' Tops, 'Heaven' Holds

Deadline reports that “The Other Woman,” a PG-13 revenge-against-men comedy starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton’s body topped the box office with a $25.4 million debut. Knocked out of the top spot after three weeks was “Captain America: The Winter Solder,” which came in second. Thus far, after four weeks, the patriotic super-hero has grossed $223 million in North America thanks to a still-healthy $14 million weekend.

Next weekend will see the release of some serious superhero competition for Cap with “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which is already making piles of money overseas.

Holding up beautifully in its second weekend is “Heaven Is for Real,” director Randall Wallace’s openly Christian film based on the true story of a little boy who convinces his family he visited Heaven during a near-death experience. The $12 million film has thus far grossed $52 million after earning $13.8 million this weekend.

With a family boost on Sunday, don’t be surprised if “Heaven” ties with or nudges “Captain America” out of second place.

Johnny Depp’s $100 million “Transcendence” was not given a reprieve. In its second weekend the already-notorious flop grossed only $4.7 million.
