Fading 'Glee' Left Off Fox's Fall Schedule

The FOX music-based series Glee appears on its last dancing legs.

The series, which pushed plenty of cultural buttons with its lineup, once delivered sturdy ratings for the network. This week, FOX announced the series didn’t make the network’s fall lineup.

The show isn’t dead. The Ryan Murphy series still has a 22-episode order, but it appears the network isn’t sure all those shows will make it to the air when the series returns midseason. The LA Times reports that episode order may be reduced, and a wrap-up to the show may be the in works.

[Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly] told reporters on Monday that the network will work with the show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy on how best to close out “Glee.”

“We need to sit down with (him) on how to end it,” Reilly said. “The advantage of airing it later in the season is that it doesn’t have to feel the pressure of delivering.”

Now, in hindsight, Fox’s decision last spring to order two more seasons of “Glee” instead of one may have been a mistake.
