Make-Believe Media Shield Obama's Waffling on Trial for 9/11 Mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed by Susan Swift 16 Nov 2010 post a comment Share This: Holding (burying?) this story until Saturday afternoon, The Washington Post regurgitated a likely Friday night White House talking points memo that Obama won’t try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the 9/11 Mastermind, in federal court because of the opposition of lawmakers in Congress and in New York…. key administration officials fear that no federal case could proceed, given stiff congressional opposition. It is expected to grow more intense when the new Republican majority assumes power in the House of Representatives. Translation: It’s the Republicans’ fault! And Obama can’t put the military prosecution genie back in GITMO bottle because that “option would alienate liberal supporters.” What’s a president to do? Literally buried at the very end of the story, WaPo mumbles what may be the Regime’s hope and plans for change: Since Obama’s taken the oath to defend and protect our country, he’s reduced the number held in GITMO by 67. These terrorists, uhh Islamic extremists, hmmm well, man-made disaster designers, are being released, sent back home or “resettled” (just what is that anyway, an under-cover terrorist protection program?) through “diplomatic efforts.” Other Make-Believe Media reporting on WaPo’s White House talking points unintentionally confirmed Obama’s adoption of his predecessor’s wisdom and legal argument: "Obama administration officials said Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators can be held under laws of war, until a trial location is agreed on...." Gee. Using the laws of war to hold KSM indefinitely? Is the War On Terror back on? Where are the MBM headlines screaming that Obama is denying habeus corpus rights? Where are the snide ledes lambasting Obama’s broken campaign promise to close GITMO? Where is the savage criticism of the Waffler-In-Chief’s latest political punt? President Bush was politically eviscerated for tempering federal aide to give sovereign states a little over a week’s time to coordinate rescue operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, a natural disaster. The elitist press ginned up a media-made disaster blaming the feds and specifically Bush for that delay, making it seem that Bush was more to blame for the devastation than the hurricane’s flooding In the case of KSM, the Make-Believe Media ledes make it sound like justice is being delayed and denied: From CBS: 9/11 trial not likely to happen anytime soon ; The Atlantic Wire: Will The 9/11 Mastermind Ever Face Trial?; NY Post: No Khalid Trial Until 2012 (partial points to the NY Post for its terse factual lede); and Reuter's: U.S. Trial Unlikely for 9/11 suspect Mohammed . And that vague opposition forces to justice are somehow to blame… Opposition to U.S. trial likely to keep mastermind of 9/11 attacks in detention. And notice it’s all about the Terrorist? The MBM singular focus on whether the 9/11 Mastermind will finally have his day in court despite those obstructionist Republicans who want to send him back out of the country to be tried by a military court. Not one of these MBM stories mentioned the number of human beings, Americans and foreigners, killed in the collapse of the Twin Towers and elsewhere on that day, estimated to be almost 3,000 souls. Those people still wait for justice. So do their loved one. So does their country. Obama's political juggling of justice for the 9/11Mastermind brings new meaning to the description "Man-Made Disaster." And the Make-Believe Media just keeps praising the Clown Act.
