On Megyn Kelly's America Live on Fox News on May 4, lefty political commentator Jehmu Greene called the Daily Caller's Tucker Carlson a "bow-tying white boy" as she tried to defend Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts who once claimed Native American ancestry, allegedly to advance her academic career.
As with CNN's Jay Thomas (of Soledad O'Brien fame), the left's tolerance for blatant racism when it serves their political interests seems limitless. In fact, scratch the surface of political correctness, and it's not hard to find the racism that lies beneath--whether the idea that Native Americans have high cheekbones (Warren), that white guys wear bow ties (Greene), or Jewish conservatives are cowards trying to be bullies (Thomas).
The left lacks the ability to be self-critical on this score, because it has convinced itself that its egalitarian postures place it firmly on the side of right, despite vast empirical evidence to the contrary, and therefore it cannot be racist. The fact that the left is allowed to get away with that conceit is largely due to the failure of the victorious West to memorialize appropriately the evil of communism, as it has done with fascism.
But that is a story for another day. For now, it is worth remembering, once again, the words of Andrew Breitbart in February:
I bought a dog whistle. I bought a dog whistle factory, and I'm giving you dog whistles. [Applause] And we're gonna listen to every word that comes out of your mouth, and we're gonna hold you to the same standard that you hold us--which is an impossible one--and you're gonna have a hell of a time in 2012 because America's finally awoken to your Saul Alinsky, bullsh** tactics, and we're coming to get you.
By the way: unlike CNN's O'Brien, Fox News' Kelly apologized to her viewers.
