Study: Social Media Users Skew Liberal
A series of Pew Research studies has concluded that Republicans are losing the social media battle. According to Pew, 69 percent of adults who are online use social networks; 38 percent said they “like” or push material about politicians on their social networks. Those numbers skew young and liberal. A full 92 percent of adults 18-29 years of age use social media. Shockingly 79 percent of all social media users said they were liberal, with 70 percent calling themselves moderates, and 63 percent saying they were conservative – a great indicator social media users are quite confused.
On Twitter, a full 25 percent of users say they’re liberal, with just 10 percent saying they’re conservative. Young people are almost 100 percent more likely than their older compatriots to use Twitter.
If conservatives hope to win the political war, they’ll first need to confront the media war – a war they’ve been losing for decades. The internet offers new opportunities. But conservatives have to avoid blowing that opportunity.
