Following Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel's inability to explain whether the Iranian regime is legitimate during his Thursday confirmation hearing, White House Spokesman Jay Carney refused to answer the same question.
Carney would only say that "the behavior" of the Iranian government is "illegitimate."
Pressed to explain, Carney said, "The [Iranian] government that we're dealing with is a government that has continued the unacceptable behavior that we've seen from Tehran for some time."
Carney continued: "I think... our views on the behavior of the regime in Tehran are expressed again and again and again."
Nevertheless, when asked to show where Hagel and Obama agree or disagree on the subject of Iran, Carney refused to give a direct answer.
