A major neo-Nazi murder trial opened Monday in Germany in a case that has embarrassed authorities and shed a spotlight on the country’s murky far-right scene.

Under a heavy police presence, Beate Zschaepe, 38, entered the court in the southern German city of Munich, appearing relaxed in a trim black trouser suit and with her arms folded, while dozens of anti-racist protesters rallied outside.
