State Department Suggests Talks with Iran Based on 'Mutual Respect'
The U.S. State Department has "quietly" suggested talks with Iran based on "mutual respect."
According to Fox News, the suggestion came just 24 hours after the Obama administration placed new sanctions on Iran.
State Department spokesman Alan Eyre offered the talks during an interview with Iran's state-run media.
He made it clear the U.S. "is ready for talks with Iran," and added: "We hope the Iranian government will engage substantively with the international community to reach a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program."
Eyre also spoke of Iran's President-elect Hassan Rowhani, "urging [him]" to keep his pre-election promises and "promote individual freedom among Iranians."
