White House Sees 'An Opportunity' in Inauguration of New Iranian President

The White House is viewing the August 4 inauguration of new Iranian president Hojjatoleslam Hassan Rouhani as “an opportunity” for Iran “to resolve” concerns over their nuclear program.

According to Buzzfeed’s Andrew Kaczynski, after congratulating the Iranian people for inaugurating their seventh president, the White House focused on how the election of Rouhani demonstrates a call for “change” and suggests he ought to act quickly on that call:

Rouhani presents an opportunity for Iran to act quickly to resolve the international community’s deep concern over Iran’s nuclear problem. Should this new government choose to engage substantively and seriously to meet its international obligations and find a peaceful resolution to this issue, it will find a willing partner in the United States.
