Assad: American Attack Would Strengthen Al-Qaeda

Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad said America would be supporting the terrorist group that attacked the United States on 9/11 if President Barack Obama uses military force against Syria.

In an interview with CBS News’s Charlie Rose on Sunday that PBS aired in full on Monday evening, Assad said military strikes would only strengthen al-Qaeda forces in his country and called on Obama to transparently release evidence that Assad was behind the chemical attacks.

“First of all, because this is the war that is going to support Al Qaeda and the same people that kill Americans in the 11 of September,” Assad said. “The second thing that we all want to tell to the Congress, that they should ask and that what we expect, we expect them to ask this administration about the evidence that they have regarding the chemical story and the allegations that they presented.”
