The niece of fashion designer Ralph Lauren has appeared in an Irish court on charges of being drunk and disorderly on a New York-bound plane.

Jewelry designer Jenny Lauren was arrested after a Delta flight from Barcelona made an unscheduled stop at Shannon Airport on Monday.

Irish police say she was charged with being intoxicated and breaching the peace and held in custody overnight.

The 41-year-old appeared Tuesday before Killaloe District Court in western Ireland _ the hearing held in a pub because the area has no courthouse.

Police officer Yvette Walsh told the hearing that when Lauren was being detained she told officers: “Can you say that in English, please?”

Judge Patrick Durcan said Lauren had indicated she would plead guilty, but he would formally hear her plea Wednesday.
