Venezuelan Government Blocking Twitter Images as Protests Continue

The Venezuelan government blocked Twitter images from protesters as opposition groups marched in Caracas for the third straight day.

According to HotAir.com, there was a disruption in tweets making their way out of Caracas, and on February 15th "a Twitter spokesperson" confirmed "the government was behind the disruption."

Venezuelans were using Twitter to keep up with news on the protests when the disruption took place: "[As] an alternative to state-run media... Twitter users had been posting their photos of demonstrations that started in provincial towns earlier this month."

Before opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was arrested and shown in handcuffs on state-run television, he used Twitter to urge protesters to keep demonstrating, "but peacefully."
