Mussolini's Granddaughter on Ballot in Italy
The granddaughter of World War II fascist Benito Mussolini will be on the ballot in Italy's May elections.
Alessandra Mussolini says she is "surprised" to hear she is a candidate but will "accept the challenge."
According to thelocal.it, "the former actress turned politician" is "[competing]...on behalf of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italian Party."
Berlusconi describes Mussolini as "a strong woman," describing her as a "female role model who could be a great help."
Mussolini is 52 years old. She was "a member of the...right-wing Social Alternative party...[in] the European Parliament...between 2004 and 2008."
