American Doctor Gunned Down in Front of Wife, Son in Pakistan

On May 26 an American doctor who was in eastern Pakistan as a volunteer was shot and killed in front of his wife and 3-year-old son.

The gunman shot Dr. Mehdi Ali Qamar “at least ten times.”

According to The New York Times,  Qamar was in Rabwah, “a town in central Punjab Province that is the main center of the Ahmadi community in Pakistan.”

Qamar’s murder is viewed as “the latest attack on a follower of the Ahmadi faith.”

Ahmadi spokesman Saleem-ud Din described it as “a faith-based target killing of a very precious man who was saving humanity.” Din demanded “justice.”

Many orthodox Muslims are offended by the Ahmadi faith over “its veneration of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, a 19th-century Punjabi cleric who Ahmadis believe was a prophet sent by God.”
