China Successfully Tests Land-Based Missile Interception Technology

On July 24 China announced successful testing of its land-based missile interception system.

The test was conducted on July 23, and officials said it "achieved the preset goal."

According to Xinhuanet, China's test represents a milestone in the growth of its military technology: "interception technology requires sophistication in information processing, reconnaissance, early warning, transportation of weaponry, guidance and precision."

China Daily reports that Teng Jianqun, a senior research fellow from the China Institute of International Studies, said the test follows a "major breakthrough in key technologies such as precise guidance."

Teng said, "The progress in recent years is in line with Chinese air forces' efforts to build offensive and defensive capabilities."

The testing on July 23 follows successful tests in 2010 and 2013.
