Pentagon: American Military Aircraft Strikes Islamic State in Iraq

The Pentagon confirmed Friday morning that the United States has conducted an airstrike on Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) artillery in Iraq.

Rear Adm. John Kirby announced news of the strike on Twitter just moments ago:

The Pentagon revealed that two F/A-18 aircraft dropped 500-pound laser-guided bombs on a mobile artillery piece near Erbil.

On Thursday night, President Obama confirmed that he had authorized military air strikes in Iraq against Islamic State forces.
