Nigerian military authorities have arrested several soldiers in Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa, all believed to have been operating as “moles” and providing “vital security information” to Boko Haram.
The leaks concerned Nigerian military troop “strategies and tactics.”
According to Vanguard, Nigerian authorities believe the leaks contributed to “a series of ambush and killing[s] of over 30 Nigerian soldiers in recent times.” The majority of those arrested for leaking information were “aide-de-camps, ADCs to Commanders of Troops on the field.”
One of the more pronounced attacks resulting from the leaks came in April, when the moles gave “information on the deployment of soldiers from Maimalari Barracks” to Boko Haram. This led to an ambush of the 101 Battalion and the subsequent killing of so many Nigerian soldiers that the 101 Battalion faced mutiny.
Vanguard also reports that the leaks are believed to have led to the September 12 downing of the Nigeria Airforce Alpha Jet. The plane was originally thought “missing,” until Boko Haram said they shot it down.
Since December 2012, Breitbart News has been reporting on Boko Haram’s religious apartheid against Christians, whom they have slaughtered with guns, knives, machetes, and fire. Since that time, they have remained selective in those they kill–often separating groups of captives–allowing Muslims to live, while gunning down Christians in the presence of onlookers.
Earlier this year, Breitbart News reported on the abduction of 200 school girls, taken from a secondary school in Chibok on April 14th. They have yet to be rescued.
Boko Haram now controls a swath of land the size of Ireland, as Breitbart News also reported in September. Their leader, Abubakar Shekau, says he will rule the land as a Caliphate in a fashion similar to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS and ISIL.
