Hungarian police say they intercepted a 16-year-old girl on her to way to Syria to join ISIS in late October.
According to Alarabiya.net, the girl was on a train from Budapest to Belgrade on October 29 when she drew attention to herself via her possession of forged documents. Hungary Counter Terror Centre (TEK) deputy-director general Zsolt Bodnar said jihadists from Western Europe often try to pass through Hungary on their way to Syria.
After apprehending the girl and learning her identity, TEK saw that “Dutch authorities had registered the 16-year-old as missing” and suspected “she wanted to join [ISIS] in Syira.”
TEK released a statement, saying:
Our data showed that the Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent was in constant contact with social media sites run by Islamist extremists for propaganda and recruitment purposes. She would have been prepared to engage in armed struggle and commit acts of terrorism.
The girl was returned to Dutch authorities on November 4.
On October 23, CNN reported that three teenage Denver, Colorado, girls “skipped school” and undertook travels to reach and join ISIS but were apprehended in Germany (pictured above). Two of the girls were of Somali descent and the third was from a Sudanese family.
