Los Angeles high school teacher Greg Schiller has been reinstated after two months of suspension for overseeing a “coil gun” and another student project for a science fair.
Schiller teaches Advance Placement Biology and Advanced Placement Psychology at Cortines School of Visual & Performing Arts
According to the Los Angeles Times, 43-year old Schiller volunteered to help students with their science projects and was suspended when the projects were deemed “dangerous” because they “were capable of launching small objects.”
The coil gun “used a magnetic charge powered by a AA battery to launch a small object several feet.” The other project used “air pressure for propulsion.”
When another school employee complained, Schiller was called to the office, “immediately sent home and suspended.”
Schiller is now back in the classroom, although the “[school] district declined to say that [he] had been exonerated.”
Schiller also coaches the Cortines’ fencing team, “and administrators [did determine] the team could not compete safely without Schiller in charge.”
