The LA Kings’ 2-1 loss to the NY Rangers on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden is not deterring frustrated but hopeful Kings fans from believing their team could bring the Stanley Cup home on Friday.
“We’re going to come back to LA… they’re going to win it,” said Kings fan Felix Dacumos, according to the Los Angeles Times. Twice during the game, the puck was sitting right on the Rangers’ goal line, but the Kings couldn’t score. “The puck stopped right at the line… it’s like the puck was asking to come back to LA,” Dacumos said.
The Kings hold a 3-1 lead over the Rangers as they prepare to play for the coveted trophy in game five of the series. If the Kings win on Friday at the Staples Center, the Stanley Cup will be theirs for the second time in three years.
If Friday’s home game for the Kings translates into a victory, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will sing to the beat of Randy Newman’s “I Love LA” on Jimmy Kimmel Live and provide the audience with hot dogs from NYC’s well-known Gray’s Papaya, which recently expanded to Hollywood. The move is part of a bet between LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and NY’s de Blasio.
