A wanted Mexican national on the run since 2010 was arrested and deported after federal authorities found him working as a night auditor at a hotel in Antioch, California. His alleged crime: murdering a man who tried to pay off a debt with a “Star Wars” action-figure collection.
According to the Contra Costa Times, Pablo Christian Larumbe Rojas, 34, was deported back to Mexico last week after being arrested earlier this year for the death of Carlos Palomares Maldonado in Mexico City in 2010.
“The so-called ‘force’ was definitely not with him during his capture and subsequent removal to Mexico,” said Timothy Aitken, field office director for Enforcement and Removal Operation in San Francisco, in a statement.
U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement said Maldonado owed $3,000 to Rojas’ associates, and to settle the debt, he offered Rojas his “extensive collection” of “Star Wars” action-figures, reportedly worth more than the debt itself. When he brought the action-figures to Rojas’ house, he was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by Rojas.
An immigration judge reportedly ordered Rojas’ deportation on June 4. Authorities said Rojas entered the United States on a visitor’s visa in 2011.
