Women Beat 65-Year-Old man to Death on Train Platform

John Whitmore, a 65-year-old man from Los Angeles, died on Friday as a result of being beaten by two women while he waited for a train on a Metro platform in South Los Angeles.

Sgt. Kim Manatt of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Whitmore had been waiting at the Willowbrook-Rosa Parks Metro platform at 1:20 p.m. on June 13 when two black women punched and kicked him until he collapsed. Then they ran away. Whitmore was rushed to a hospital, where he fought for his life for a week before he died on Friday at 2 a.m.

Metro spokeswoman Kim Upton told the Los Angeles Times, “Our hearts go out to the family,” adding that there was no other information available regarding the incident.

The Los Angeles County Metro Line has 80 stations; the Willowbrook-Rosa Parks is one of the busiest. The station allows transfers to be made from the Green Line, which connects Redondo Beach and Norwalk, to the Blue Line, which links downtown Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles.
