Obama in Bay Area Tuesday for Fundraising Coastal Trip

The Contra Costa Times has outlined Barack Obama’s schedule for his fundraising visit to California this week. Fresh out of raiding the fundraisers in Seattle, Obama will arrive Tuesday night in the Bay Area, then appear at a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraising luncheon on Wednesday at the Los Altos Hills home of real estate tycoon George Marcus.

Entry to the Marcus affair? $10,000 a person, and the lucky donor gets lunch and a photo op. But if you’re a couple, don’t tell the organizers, because as a couple the price doesn’t just double, it more than triples, at $32,400 a couple. What else do you get for that? A “VIP photo opportunity.”

Democratic bigwigs also attending include House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco; DCCC Chairman Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y.; and Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto.

After the Marcus event, Obama will visit Los Angeles, where on Thursday he will speak at a community college to pontificate about job-driven skills training, most specifically referring to health care. Another fundraiser is also on the docket.

The DCCC’s fundraising is outstripping efforts by the GOP this election cycle, according to The Associated Press, which estimates the Democratic effort at $124.7 million while the GOP has raised $101 million.
