Crazy Real Estate in SF: $400k for Less than 300 Sq. Ft.

How crazy are home prices in San Francisco? Try this: KBCW reports that one 266-square foot “home” has a sale price of $379,000. Located in the Crawford-Amazon district, it is listed as a “fixer-upper.” It sits on a lot that is 1300 square feet.

Data show that the district is densely populated; in 2011 it crammed 22,004 people per square mile compared to San Francisco’s 17,407 people per square mile. It was measured at roughly 50% Asian and 25% Hispanic, with a median household income of $77,361 compared to San Francisco’s $69,894.

But the house prices in the district are actually below those of the city around it, which would suggest that the housing prices in the city of San Francisco are even more outrageous. In 2010, the average estimated value of detached houses was $608,553, as opposed to San Francisco’s $789,943.
