California state Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail early Friday morning. He is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol limit of 0.08 percent or more.
California Highway Patrol in Sacramento arrested Hueso and he was booked at 3:27 a.m. Friday. No release date was projected, according to jail records for Benjamin Hueso. Bail has been set at $1,482. A court date has been set for August 26 at the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice.
Hueso attended a Latino Caucus dinner earlier in the evening that ended around 9 p.m., according to a Sacramento Bee report.
Hueso joins among a number of Democrat Senators facing criminal violations. Senators Leland Yee (D-San Francisco), Ronald Calderon (D-Montebello), and Roderick Wright (D-Inglewood) were suspended over their criminal violations, leading to Senate approval of three measures aimed at demanding more ethical behavior from Senate member Breitbart’s William Bigelow previously reported.
Hueso is an encumbant state senator up for re-election in November. His Democrat challenger is Rafael Estrada who received 27.9% of the vote in California’s June primary election. The Senator left a seat in the State Assembly to compete for a vacated State Senate seat that he won in a 2013 special election. Hueso’s top campaign contributors through 2012 were General Trade and Public Sector Unions according to Maplight.org.
