Hazmat Crews to Home Depot to Clean Pepper Spray Spill

CBS Los Angeles reports that in Covina, California, an argument between two men at a Home Depot on Monday escalated to the point where one man discharged pepper spray, affecting 12 people, four of whom were treated at a hospital.

Hazardous-materials crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were dispatched and arrived at 3 p.m., when customers reported they were having trouble breathing from what they thought was an unknown chemical spill. Police told CBS2/KCAL9 that the two men arguing were former business acquaintances, and that one man sprayed the other with pepper spray in the face.

Sgt. Rob Bobkiewicz stated, “The airborne pepper spray particles spread quickly to other parts of the store and affected numerous uninvolved persons.”

Fernando Aldana-Rivera, 38, of Covina was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession/use of a tear gas weapon.
