LA Councilman: Trigger Locks On Guns At Home 'Will Keep Our Schools Safe'

On November 7, a group of Los Angeles City Council members introduced a proposal requiring guns in the home be “stored in locked containers” or rendered temporarily inoperable via a trigger lock.

The proposal’s sponsor, Councilman Paul Krekorian (D-Dist. 2), said, “This sensible step will keep our schools and children safe.”

He did not explain how having a gun which a mother or father cannot access to defend their families would make children in those families safer.

According to CBS Los Angeles, Krekorian’s proposal goes further than current California law, which simply requires that gun owners be provided a locking mechanism when they purchase a firearm so they have the option of using it. State law “does not require that firearms actually be disabled with a trigger lock or stored in a locked container when not in use.”

Krekorian’s proposal was supported by Councilmen Bernard Parks (D-Dist. 8), Gil Cedillo (D-Dist. 1), Bob Blumenfield (D-Dist. 3), Paul Koretz (D-Dist. 5), and Mitch O’Farrell (D-Dist. 13).

On October 4 Breitbart News reported that violent crime has risen as more gun control has been instituted in Los Angeles.
