Al Qaeda Launch English-Language Terror Magazine

Al Qaeda have announced the launch of a new English-language magazine, Resurgence, on one of their YouTube channels.

The video announcing the launch uses the words of Malcolm X to justify violent struggle, and combines images of George W Bush and warplanes with a speech by the African-American leader in which he says: “You can’t ever reach a man if you don’t speak his language. If a man speaks the language of brute force, you can’t come to him with peace.”

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism expert at the Swedish National Defence College, said that using words by Malcolm X was significant: “Its simplicity appeals in many ways. It focuses on the raw emotions of victimhood in the Muslim world which reinforces the al-Qaeda narrative that the West is aggressively at war with Islam”

He added that the use of English suggests that it is aimed at converts and second and third generation immigrants.

The magazine looks as if it will be based on Inspire, an English-language Jihadi magazine published by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). That publication allegedly inspired the Boston Marathon Bombers last year, who killed three people and injured 264 others. It featured articles such as “How to Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom”.

The announcement of the magazine suggests that Al Qaeda are now beginning to focus again on Europe, after having been tied up in Syria for the past few years.
