Teacher Told Jewish Teen She'd 'Go To One of Your Gas Chambers'

A Jewish teenager was told by her teacher that she would be sent to “one of your gas chambers” after she unhooked a rope barrier to skip the lunch queue at a school in North London.

The incident, which is said to have left the unnamed girl “shocked and upset”, occurred at the posh North London Collegiate School, reports the Daily Mail.

The teacher who made the horrific remarks has worked at the school for several years, and is reported to have apologised to the girl and her family. The remark was overheard by a large number of students who were also standing in line for their lunches.

The Mail reports that “Last night, the parents of the girl, who was 17 at the time, urged the headmistress to make a public statement to underline the seriousness of the incident.”

“According to her father, the offensive comment was made after the girl committed a minor misdemeanour by unhooking a rope barrier within the lunch queue as she entered the dining hall in January.”

He also said, “‘It was very unpleasant, very uncalled-for and very unfortunate. My daughter was shocked and upset. She didn’t say anything to the teacher at the time but all her friends expressed amazement. They kept saying, ‘Did she really say that?'”

The school is one of the most expensive in the area, with term fees costing up to £6,000.

Past graduates of the school include actress Rachel Weisz, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and TV personality Esther Rantzen.

Commenting on the subject to the Mail, Rantzen said, “When I was there, it was a most inclusive school in which everyone was very aware of the rights of others. It was a model of tolerance and I am absolutely astonished by this incident.”
