42 Year Old Man Dies After Completing London Marathon

A 42 year old man collapsed and died just minutes after completing Sunday’s London Marathon, according to a statement from the organisers. The man, who has not been named, was treated at the finish line after completing the gruelling 26 mile course, but was pronounced ‘dead on arrival’ at hospital.

The London Marathon has had fatalities in the past, most recently in 2012, when 30 year old Claire Squires collapsed one mile from the finish line. Her cardiac arrest was blamed on legal performance enhancing drugs.

A spokeswoman for the London Marathon said: “It is with regret that we have learnt of the death of a competitor.

“The organisers of the Virgin Money London Marathon would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

“We will not be releasing any further details of this tragic incident and would ask for your understanding in this matter.

“We would like to emphasise that our immediate concern is for the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time.”

The fatality comes just days after Breitbart London reported on a new study that suggests jogging might actually be bad for your health. The study by Dr. Martin Matsumura, showed that people who have a sedentary lifestyle actually live longer than those who jog.

Dr Matsumura studied 3,800 men and women runners, 70 percent of whom ran more than twenty miles a week.
