One Third Of Voters Believe Cameron Has Undermined Christianity

One third of British voters say that David Cameron has eroded the power of Christianity, according to The Sun. The ComRes poll says that the Prime Ministers policies, which include gay marriage, have humbled the national religion.

The poll will come as a blow to the government, who had hoped that traditional ‘values voters’ would move on quickly and forget some of the fiercely liberal policies enacted by the Prime Minster. But one in three people believe that the lack of tax breaks for married couples and the institution of gay marriage have led to an erosion of the religious fabric of the country.

Half those polled believed the definition of marriage is the union between one man and one woman. Colin Hart from the Christian Institute said: “Reluctance to stand up to the forces of aggressive secularism has taken its toll on how Mr Cameron is viewed.”

Conservative party managers had hoped to unite traditional voters around the concept of supporting stable relationships. They argued that gay marriage can be justified as it creates a legal framework for same sex couples to remain in committed legally backed relationship for their entire lives.

This poll would suggest that plan has failed.
