'Brutal' UK Prostitution Gang Gets Prison Sentence

LONDON (AP) — Five members of a human trafficking gang that lured more than 120 women to Britain and forced them into prostitution have been sentenced to between three and 12 years in prison.

Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Nick Forteath said Thursday that the gang was among the largest, most organized and brutal he had encountered.

Police say the gang, led by 35-year-old Indian national Vishal Chaudhary, lured most of its victims from Hungary with false promises of legitimate work.

The women were sent to brothels across London, where some were forced to have sex with up to 20 men a day in what police called a “commercial scale” operation.

Police say it was unclear how long the gang had been operating before detectives began investigating it in 2012.
