New Poll Gives UKIP 32 Point Lead in Clacton

UKIP candidate Douglas Carswell has a 32-point lead over the Conservatives in the Clacton by-election, according to pollster Lord Ashcroft.

The poll suggests that Carswell will win the by-election with 56 percent, with the Conservatives in second place on 24 percent. Labour are in third place on 16 percent, while the Liberal Democrats have just two.

The by-election was called after Carswell last week sensationally defected from the Conservative Party to UKIP. He immediately announced that he would resign his seat in parliament and seek a renewed mandate from the electorate of Clacton under his new party label.
