A Miami lawyer is suing the San Antonio Spurs, alleging the basketball team violated the state’s “deceptive and fair trade practices law” when San Antonio rested its star players on November 29, when the Spurs played the Heat in Miami.
Before that game, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich “sent Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green back to San Antonio, saying that he believed that resting his top players for their fourth game in five days was a smart decision.”
What Popovich did was something coaches and managers in other sports, like baseball, do all the time so the players can be fresh for the postseason.
Larry McGuinness, the Miami lawyer who filed the class action lawsuit many have ridiculed for being beyond frivolous, is also claiming he suffered “economic damages.”
“It was like going to Morton’s Steakhouse and paying $63 for porterhouse and they bring out cube steak,” McGuinness, who bought his ticket on the resale market, said. “That’s exactly what happened here.”
Miami, though, won that night 105-100.
The Spurs said they intend not to comment on the lawsuit.
