Poll: More than Three-Quarters Support Prayer Before High School Football Games

More than three-quarters (76%) of Americans feel that public high school students should be allowed to pray before high school football games.

According to a Public Religion Research Institute survey, there are few differences on this question “by race, region, gender, or age.”

Even 56% of “religiously unaffiliated Americans agree that public high schools should be able to sponsor prayer before football games.” Nearly 90% of Republicans (89%), 77% of independents and 68% of Democrats support also do. 

Public Religion Research Institute designed and conducted the survey between January 16, 2013 and January 20 of1,033 adults 18 years of age or older (415 of whom were interviewed on a cell phone). The survey’s margin of error is +/- 3.5 percentage points.
