Google Celebrates Jackie Robinson's Birthday with Doodle

On Thursday, Google celebrated Jackie Robinson’s birthday by giving the Brooklyn Dodgers legend and civil rights hero the Google Doodle treatment.

When one clicks on the the sketch of him, search results for Robinson appear.

Thursday would have been Robinson’s 94th birthday.

Robinson desegregated baseball in 1947 – decades before the civil rights laws were passed — and was the first athlete ever to letter in four sports at UCLA.

He personified how powerful sports can be as a cultural institution.

Robinson passed away in 1972 at the age of 53. He is survived by his wife Rachel, who is 90 years old, and two children. Rachel Robinson runs the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which she founded after Robinson’s passing.
