Arizona and the U Best Road Warriors; only 20% have Winning Road Records

Watching the Miami Heat, the top team in the Eastern Conference, get drilled on the road again tonight is a reminder of why the Superbowl and March Madness are played in neutral locations. Only 20% of all NCAA teams have a winning record on the road, led by Arizona and Miami who will get another chance today.

Duke and Kentucky do not have winning records on the road. Neither do Ohio State, NC State or UNC. In fact, only the 40 teams below have won two-thirds of their road games this season the other 307 teams have not.

Road wins are so tough that the NCAA awards 1.4 wins for a road win and only 0.6 losses when a team loses on the road, and vice versa at home. This weekend ranked teams going on the road to try to beat other ranked teams include #14 Miami (visiting #19 NC State),  #1 Michigan (at #3 Indiana), #16 Mississippi (at #4 Florida) and on Sunday #25 Marquette (#12 Louisville).  The home team has a better than 2-to-1 chance in each of those games, but there should be at least one statement upset road win.

Pictured leaving after a win at rival Arizona State, from left to right, are Mark Lyons and Nick Johnson, who ranked as the 296th and 28th best player of almost 4000 this year on www.valueaddbasketball.com. They will try to win at Washington State this weekend to keep pass or move ahead of Miami for the best road record in the country.
