NFL Greats Use Sandy Hook Tragedy to Push for Gun Control

Five NFL legends use the Sandy Hook tragedy to push for gun control in a new commercial paid for by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino founded, is running a spot in which Marhsall Faulk, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and LaDainian Tomlinson call on viewers to “demand a plan” from their legislators on gun control. The spot started to run Saturday during sporting events, most prominently on the ESPN networks.

“How many more?,” asks Sanders in the commercial. “How many more street corners?”

“How many more schools?,” asks Faulk.

“How many more movie theaters?,” asks Smith.

“How any more halftime moments of silence?,” asks Irvin.

“Enough,” says Tomlinson.

After Smith says, “for the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School,” Tomlinson adds, “demand a plan.”

“You can’t win without a plan,” Sanders says. “This, right here, is not a game.”

Faulk concludes by saying it is time for our “leaders to do something,” and the players ask the viewers to “demand a plan right now.”

Mayors Against Illegal Guns claims it  “advocates for common-sense measures that will close deadly gaps in our gun laws and make sure law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to detect and deter gun trafficking.”

The group also aired a commercial in the Washington, D.C. market during the Super Bowl featuring children to call for background checks on all gun purchases.
