1st Place Miami Wins on Road, 2nd Place Duke Survives at Home Against UNC

After picking up his third foul with UNC upsetting Duke by three points, Mason Plumlee scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds and added a steal . The narrow 73-68 win at home verses a weak UNC was hardly impressive in light of ACC-leading Miami demolishing UNC 87-61 on Saturday, and winning their ninth straight road game today over Florida State to stay on course for a perfect ACC season with a trip to second place Duke looming March 2.

Breitbart Sports first noted that Arizona and Miami were the top two road teams this year before the Hurricanes shot up through the rankings.

While Plumlee had to turn it on late to rescue Duke, it was Shane Larkin who scored 13 of his 22 points down the stretch to pull off the  74-68 road win at Florida State. Often when Duke beats UNC it claims the ACC title, but this year they will need Miami to lose a home game to third place Virginia (February 19) or somewhere along the way for the February 28 match-up at Duke to give them a chance at the title. The ACC standings are now:

  1. Miami 11-0
  2. Duke 9-2
  3. Virginia 8-3
  4. UNC 6-5
  5. NC State 6-5
  6. Florida 5-6
  7. Maryland 5-6
  8. Clemson 4-7
  9. Wake forest 4-8
  10. Georgia Tech 3-7
  11. Boston College 3-8
  12. Virginia Tech 2-9
